Meet Dan Thomas

Dan Thomas’s story is one of service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the people he calls neighbors.

Born and raised outside Cleveland, Ohio, Dan moved to Southern Maryland in 1984 before enlisting in the United States military. After four years of active‑duty service, he returned to Waldorf, Maryland, where he lived until 1991. That year, he married his wife Angela, moved to Baltimore County, and welcomed two daughters, Ashley and Savanah. In 1997, Dan discovered the beauty and community of Calvert County — and he has proudly called it home ever since.

Dan spent years working as a union truck driver with Teamsters Local 355 and 639 at Sysco Foods and Safeway. After the attacks of September 11th, he transitioned into the intelligence community as a contractor. In 2003, while serving in the Maryland National Guard’s 629th Military Intelligence Battalion, he was activated to support the 115th Military Police Battalion as its senior counterintelligence agent. After training in prison operations, the 115th deployed to Baghdad for a six‑month mission.

Dan continued serving with the 3rd Infantry Division Rear Operations Center and the 323rd Military Intelligence Battalion at Fort Meade until his honorable discharge in 2013.

His service didn’t end there. Dan worked as a federal contractor supporting the National Ground Intelligence Center and the Combined Explosive Exploitation Cell in Baghdad. He later joined the Department of the Army’s Joint IED Defeat Organization for another six‑month deployment to Iraq. In 2010, he became a counterintelligence subject‑matter expert with the Department of Defense Office of the Inspector General, evaluating intelligence and counterintelligence programs across the Department. He retired in 2025 after earning the Department of Defense Exceptional Civilian Service Award, Meritorious Civilian Service Award, and Distinguished Civilian Service Award.

At home, Dan is a devoted Washington Nationals fan, an avid cook, and a lover of crime‑investigation shows. He enjoys target shooting, reading Tom Clancy novels, and spoiling his three grandchildren. Dan lives in Owings with his wife Angela, a retired pharmacy technician, and attends St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis.
